Buliza washing station is located in the mountainous Rulindo district of the Northern Province of Rwanda. The washing station has been running since 2007 and is owned by the ABOKAMU cooperative, made up of 189 farmer members. All co-op members receive health care, agriculture training and fertilizers.
Approximately 500 producers deliver coffee to the washing station, who grow coffee at between 1,600 and 2000 masl. Once fresh coffee cherries arrive at the mill they are pulped on a disc pulper before being fermented underwater for 24-36 hours. Once fermentation is complete, the coffee is washed thoroughly and graded in grading channels. From here the coffee is moved to raised beds to be sun dried.
