Nely Orellana and her husband Donaldo Fiallos have inherited the farm, Las Gemelas, and have focused on producing specialty coffee, and more recently high quality honey and natural micro lots. They decided to grow yellow catuai, which has great cup quality in this region. Nely has benefited from Aruco’s training programme and logistics support, and was advised on how they could improve their quality and infrastructure. Nely has recently had a parabolic drier built, in order to improve the drying of the coffee, necessary for the production of clean, high quality naturals.
Sol Naciente had previously been used for raising cattle. Donaldo, a former agronomist, took over the farm from his mother 10 years ago and saw potential for growing coffee. He chose to grow only yellow catuai, due to the cup quality in the Corquin area. Aruco provided technical support throughout the setup of the coffee farm, and provided training in coffee processing and production. Donaldo is committed to producing high quality microlots, and has built a parabolic drier and raised beds on the farm. The farm supports a local education centre in Corquin, which aims to provide an education to all the children in the coffee growing community.
